Do you know the Muffin Man who lives in Drury Lane? I do.
The Muffin Man now lives on a quiet suburban street in southeastern Pennsylvania, where he puts his little mitts on any muffin he can reach. Last week it was Baked Banana-Espresso Muffins. This week, it's Citrus-Golden Berry Sunshine Muffins, thanks to Lauryn at Bella Baker and Tuesdays with Dorie.
Sunshine? What's that? While we wait for spring to begin in earnest, these muffins will have to do for sunshine. Fresh orange juice, orange zest, and lemon juice make these simple-looking muffins extra perky. I didn't have any currants on hand, but I did have a bag of Trader Joe's Golden Berry Blend (dried cherries, blueberries, and golden raisins), which complemented the muffins perfectly. I also substituted white whole wheat flour for half of the all-purpose, because if the Muffin Man is going to mainline muffins all day, they should be a little bit healthy.
As with many of Dorie's muffins, these aren't showy "wow" muffins. They don't overwhelm with sweetness or add-ins, and they aren't jumbo-sized. They're simply good, and good reminders of what muffins once were before coffee chains and supermarkets turned them into softball-size lumps of not-very-good cake. Muffin rant over. We loved these - especially the Muffin Man.
Next week: Suzy of Suzy Homemaker chose Honey Nut Brownies
Last week: Corniest Corn Muffins
OMG he is the cutest! Love him holding that muffin!! Thanks for baking with me!
ReplyDeleteAdorable picture! I was thinking the same thing about the "super-sized" muffins we see everywhere. These muffins almost look like minis compared to the giants we see at Starbucks!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little Muffin Man! Love the sound of that golden berry blend, too...the things I learn over here...always a pleasure! Great looking muffins, but not as cute as the little Muffin Man, sorry, it's not even close! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love your Muffin Man...he looks SO grown up compared to the last time I saw him...wow...hugs to all from us.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Glad the Muffin Man enjoyed them! :)
ReplyDeletehmm... someone loves that muffin!

I do agree, these are exactly what a muffin should be. Your little man is so handsome.
ReplyDeleteThe little muffin man sure has pretty eyes! Im glad you enjoyed the recipe! And yes...much better then any kind you can find in the store:)
ReplyDeleteThese muffins turned out well no matter what ingredients you included! I loved these a lot.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, could the Muffin Man be any cuter? Totally agree about Dorie's muffins too - and the lazy part of me loves the ease of the recipes.
ReplyDeletewhat a cute little man you have there! :)
ReplyDeleteCute Muffin Man! Glad he liked the muffins.
ReplyDeleteThe muffin man is adorable - I would bake at all hours for a face like that :) I could do with some muffins and think I will look up Dorie's recipes. I loved your comment about baking children's cake and cupcakes- it instantly made me want a cupcake. Fast forward from muffin man to FFriday 17 year old son who just returned from school trip to France. His girlfriend baked him cupcakes today and wrote "welcome home" across the top. Then left them in the car with the recordbreaking heat. They are illegible but she learned a cooking technique - the fridge. Have a great week !
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable model! I'm glad he liked these muffins. Don't you love Trader Joe's? I find so many things there that give a different twist to my cooking and baking.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! He looks soooo much like his big sister with all that hair. Never noticed the resemblance till his hair grew in. Soooo handsome! (Oh, and the food looks good, too.)
ReplyDeleteYour baking creations look yummy!
